Evaluation
Design Practice Qualities
The submitted web site shows evidence of good conceptual and theoretical grounding,
manifested through careful selection of content and number of levels of engagement
with that content. The outcome demonstrated Carlos's and Alex's awareness
of the issues involved in theorising the relationship between time, geographical
location and the Internet technologies.
The content of the site represents a collection of researched ideas and
themes that come together to communicate through a visual message.
The design of the site reflects good and appropriate use of web authoring
skills, illustrating a sensitivity to page layout and need to create an
identity unique, but consistent throughout the site. The designed outcome
demonstrates the combine abilities of the two members of the group and benefits
from this input. The overall presentation of the site is well developed
and shows the groups ability to be creative.
The final presentation,
although, covered the main points of the site needed a bit more effort put
into it to communicate in more depth the complexities what was being portrayed
visually.
Monitoring group's progress and development of the project demonstrated their
ability to plan and manage the tasks.
Recommendations
Both Carlos and Alex produced a good web site with interesting solutions visually
and conceptually to the issue of time and the Internet. However, there is
still the need to question on a deeper level the appropriateness of design
solutions within the given context. Therefore, the next step in learning about
design for the web should be towards more conscious development and application
of the design tools like visual language, semiotics or use of rhetoric to
communicate the content.
Final Assessment
Through this project, Carlos and Alex demonstrated their ability to creatively
engage with a challenging issue of time and the Internet, designing an outcome
that was both interesting and functioned on more then one conceptual level.
