Brief

Introduction

With the development of new technologies arose the possibility of creating virtual spaces, their goal to represent the physical world as closely as possible. A realisation of the difficulty of this task opened up other opportunities like the appreciation of virtual spaces for their own sake. However, the question still remains how does one represent the physical world within the virtual world of the Internet? What solution can design provide in creating virtual experiences that give the users the impressions of physical spaces?
Project Aims
This project allows you to examine the difference between the physical definitions of space in relation to virtual one. The aim of your research and its practical outcome is to conduct an investigation of a predefined urban environment explore its possible representations within the Internet.
Project Task
You are asked to defining the notions of physical environments in relation to Internet environments and conceptualise the distinctions between the two, whilst creating your own taxonomy of differences through design.

You are asked to examine the notion of tangible and intangible aspects of urban environments and explore the process of design communicating one notion through the other.

By expanding the context of you examination to cover social and cultural aspects of urban environments, you are asked to take into account broader issues conveying these spaces and the role design can play to create the meaning.

In the practical application of this project, you are asked to develop a site with minimum 5 pages, which through a visual and textual narrative allows the user to experience a physical environment. The individual web pages should be created and linked together to allow the entire site to communicate the experience. Each element included within the web pages should be given particular consideration as to its meaning and relation to the other elements. Each web page should represent a coherent whole and contribute to the entire message.
