Introduction
This project is a proposed intranet for a fictitious company. The intranet has been proposed on the basis that the company want to aid internal communication and knowledge management. The following requirements need to be observed in implementing a successful outcome.
The site should be only accessible to staff members for the following reasons:
- To find out details about each other (primary details: phone number, email address,
department, etc; but also secondary ones: first aiders, mentors, etc)
- To share internal documents, projects, and information in general.
- To organize social activities like football games and days out.
The following interaction modes should be implemented:
- Every staff member can view the primary and additional information of other staff members.
- Only Administration can view the private details section.
- Knowledge management material is only available per department (department internal) or per project (interdepartmental).
- The interface allows the user to view staff according to departments which share at least one project with the user's department. There is a "view all staff" section per staff listing / per staff position. The knowledge management database allows the user to view documents for each project by title which displays an icon for the document format.

- The knowledge management database should contain department specific information in various formats.
Department specific documents are:
- Research Documents (Word / PDF / HTML /E -Books)
- Project Plans (MS project, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Proposals and Strategy Papers (word, excel, PDF)
- Project Documentation
- Interface designers have a visual inspiration pool, the formats are: Illustrator and Photoshop files; gifs, jpegs and pcts, plus Visio, Word and Excel files.
Login Requirements:
- Staff Login (Non-Admin): Should be entitled to see Primary Staff Details and department specific
knowledge information and documentation.
- Staff Login (Admin only): Should be entitled to view Primary and Private Staff Details, plus department
specific information and documentation.
For this phase of the intranet project only viewing modes are required, no upload, subscription or
content management tools need to be implemented. However some categories can be changed or added when
interface design or project discussion shows that they are needed.
